Scott Zeitzer Company President
After graduating with his biomedical engineering degree, Scott was working as a sales rep for Howmedica, a medical device company that was a division of Pfizer. His plan was to eventually move to product development and help design the next generation of orthopedic implants.
However, over the years, Scott’s biomedical engineering background allowed him to have better conversations with his orthopedic and neurosurgeon clients. He developed close relationships with many of them, and eventually began to have conversations with them about marketing their practices and the types of software, applications, and marketing strategies they might need to run and grow their businesses more effectively.
While Scott was having these conversations with his customers to be a better sales rep, he realized that he could actually help orthopedic and neurosurgeons with their website and application development needs. During his biomechanics training, he had done a lot of application development. Around the same time, Howmedica was sold to Stryker. While Scott was able to stay on selling medical devices, he ultimately decided it was the right time to make a career pivot and start the website and application development business he had been planning for.
He started this new company, which he called Mudbug Media, 25 years ago. Eventually, the company rebranded to Health Connective to better encompass the industries we serve. To better serve orthopedic, spine, and neuro surgeons, Scott developed P3 Practice Marketing to help practices attract the right patients, pathologies, and procedures.
Our Culture at Health Connective
When Scott started Health Connective, he knew that he wanted to create a strong company culture. He was and continues to be inspired by the Johnson & Johnson credo, which talks about the company’s responsibility to its customers, employees, and community. His own mantra for the company is “Protect the company. Protect the client. No surprises.”
A big part of Health Connective’s culture is creating an environment where employees can have open conversations. We want to empower our employees to do good work, and part of that is ensuring that they are well taken care of as individuals.
Recognizing that many of our employees are parents, or have responsibilities outside of work, Scott set out to create an environment where employees have the flexibility to take care of what they need in their personal lives. This includes allowing for flexible work schedules, providing healthcare, and 401K and profit sharing.
This culture also helped our company pivot to an all-remote work environment at the start of the COVID-19 pandemic. Our employees always had the option to be semi-remote or even fully remote before the pandemic, so we were able to transition to remote work smoothly. Since then, we’ve continued to operate as a fully-remote team, getting together in-person a couple of times a year for team-building. Our culture of open communication has helped us work well as a team even when we don’t see each other in-person as often.
Over the past 25 years, investing in our employees has been a key part of our culture. We believe when you cultivate your employees’ talents and create a safe space for them to work, your clients ultimately benefit from a team that is committed and experienced.
